Chapter 27
Lady luck was with me. I found Aaron. He was lying on the neighbourhood playground slide. His eyes seemed sad, like his body posture. I gulped and slowly walked towards him. He was oblivious to me until I sat on the edge of the slide.
With his eyes wide open, he quickly sat up and cleared his throat. An awkward silence hung around us. Then, I spoke.
“Aaron, I...I. whatever that you had seen just now, was not what you think it was.”
He just shrugged and added a smirk,”No need for explanations. None of my business.”
At that point of time, Aaron looked so cold and mean. He seemed guarded to let anyone come near him. My heart went all out to him and it was my entire fault. My hands instinctively went to wrap around his and I whispered just loud enough for him to hear.
“There is an absolute need. I want you to care.”
As I said, I could feel his eyes on me and I looked straight into his eyes daringly. After a long silence, his lips moved and murmured,” I care. I really do.”
My eyes glistened at the mere words of his. I realised that I longed these words for a long time. He did not speak the words I wanted to hear but he meant “I like you”, didn’t he?
Our gazes were locked together all the while and I looked at him questioningly. Before I could muster up enough courage to ask what he meant, his lips were on mine.
Just the light touch of his lips sent my heart pounding wildly. My arms instinctively went around his neck as he pressed me closer. We just sat there, on the slide, with our lips joined. Suddenly, time seemed to stop just for this magical moment. Who knew happiness could be so simple?
When he finally pulled away, I was breathless. Aaron was just slightly better than me. We just stared at each other blankly. I could feel my cheeks flushing and the haze that enveloped me an instant ago had slowly faded away.
Then, I smiled and laughed. Embarrassed, I hid myself away from him. Aaron just gave a chuckle and hugged me. He pulled me down with him as I gave a short scream, before giggling like a primary school girl. Just like that, both of us laid shoulder to shoulder on the slide. I knew this romantic moment would always remain in my heart forever.
I should have known, though. That happiness can never last for long for someone like me...
Hand in hand, Aaron and I walked back to my flat. Our laughter stopped when we saw the forgotten Callum looking ashen pale. I took an intake of breath and walked towards him. To my surprise, he took a step away from me, his expression guarded.
“Callum? What is wrong?” I asked. Aaron stood behind me, looking worried too.
“Who are you?” Callum spoke at last.
I frowned and looked at him perplexedly. Aaron did not speak.
“Explain!” he yelled, throwing the Destiny Book on the dining table,” Why is Aaron’s everyday life jotted down on this book detailed-ly?!”
I was momentarily speechless. My insides froze and I just kept my eyes on the Destiny Book. My first instinct was to lose my temper. “Who the hell are you to look into my stuff?! You bad-mannered asshole!”
Callum just scoffed and demanded an explanation. In my head, I screamed, OMQ...OMQ...I am going to die! How can I still keep my identity a secret if Callum refuses to budge?! Ah! HELP!
Then, suddenly, a wash of iciness enveloped my body and standing beside me was Sapphire. She just possessed my body. Now left with my soul, I felt so light and good. I almost forgot how it felt to be an immortal, flying amidst clouds.
I smiled as Sapphire solved the problem coolly for me.
“Well, it’s just my way of liking Aaron. You got a problem with that?” ‘I’ said.
I expressed amusement as I watched the heated debate where The Destiny Queen VS my annoying little brother. It was rare occasion to see the childish side of Sapphire...
“YES!”
“TOO BAD!”(Stuck out tongue)
“LAMEO!”
“WHATEVER,LOSER! BLEAH!”
“YOU! WHAT DID YOU SAY?!”
“LOSER!THIS IS MY MOUTH! I CAN SAY WHATEVER I WANT!”
The dispute only ended when Aaron stepped in.
“STOP!!!” his voice towering over Sapphire’s and Callum’s. Suddenly, the house was silent.
“This problem started because of me...so i will solve it. First i will read the content.”Aaron said calmly, a slight teasing in his tone. I guess he is flattered by all I did. If only he knew the truth...
Before he could reach out and open the book, ‘I” snatched it away and hid behind my back. “Privacy. Respecting my privacy. Get it?”
Aaron sighed and pouted. “PLEASE...”
He was so cute that very instance! KAWWWAAAII!
“Gay!” was all ‘I’ said, biting my cheeks to prevent myself from laughing out loud. ’I’ then pushed both guys out of the house and slammed the door at their face.
In a second, I was back to my own body. “Nice one, Sapphire! Thanks for saving my life!”
She shrugged modestly and sighed dramatically,” I am never gg to do sth crazy like this ever again. I think I got carried away teasing that annoying brother of yours...”
I doubled up laughing as the scene replayed in my mind. She elbowed me in my chest playfully and warned me to careful before returning to the palace before the king discover her missing.
That night, it seemed to me that lots of things happened during the daytime. I vowed never to let Callum into my house ever again. He almost gave me heart attack... As for Aaron, I giggled at the thought of him. The first kiss we had still lingered on my lips and his little pout kept appearing in my mind...
